Bhrigu Lake Trek

Why You Should Do Bhrigu Lake Trek?

Bhrigu Lake Trek is a high-altitude glacial lake sitting at 14,100 feet above sea level, making it an ideal location for some mind-blowing adventure and thrills. The Bhrigu Lake Trek in Manali is one of the most appealing short treks in the Himalayas, and it welcomes you to see a high-altitude alpine lake, lush meadows, and all your heart desires.

It is reported that Maharishi Bhrigu, the renowned saint, sat in serious meditation on this place. However, we do not believe that the lake is the walk’s main attraction. Bhrigu Lake’s meadows are a must-see.

Getting into an alpine meadow in our country normally takes at least a day or two of trekking through the trees. A two- or three-day climb is in the cards. This is the case since most alpine meadows begin at 11,000 feet above treeline. However, you will be in the meadows within the first 10 minutes of your journey! Imagine having a meadow like this in your own backyard. It’s no surprise that panoramas like those found in Switzerland captivate us. The meadows on the Bhrigu Lake trip stretch far and wide, almost like an endless carpet. There are wild horses running all around you. The grazing sheep look up as you emerge from the trees, almost as though greeting you.

These lush green hillocks provide views of the Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar mountains, which dominate the skyline. This is the garden of your dreams. In the months of July to September, the meadows are at their most lush green. There are many wildflowers to be found.

The texture, form, and color of the meadows change as you travel down the trail, but they stick with you until you reach Bhrigu Lake. This is what sets the voyage apart. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hike across alpine meadows the entire way.  Trees such as Oak, Birch, Cedar,Pine and Junipers are common as well as Rhododendron plants are common. One can see horses and mountain sheep grazing in the meadows with occasional sight of deer, ibex, Himalayan monal, pheasants and other animals.

This four-day journey gives you a good taste of everything Himalayan climbs have to offer, such as meadows, glacier lakes, and mountain views. Despite being a short trip, it ascends to a high altitude of 14,000 feet, providing the thrill of a climb.

It’s a terrific walk for beginners or families eager to discover the wilderness, thanks to its easy access from Manali.

When To Plan Bhrigu Lake trek ?

It is possible to go to Bhrigu Lake from the month of May extending to October but the best time to visit is from mid June to mid September. From mid-May, the terrain clears up for easy access, but it is still pretty frozen.

In June

The month of June brings the perfect opportunity for this trek, with the snow cleared away enough to open up most of the roads and it is about time for the frozen lake to start melting. In this time, you will still find many traces of winter.

In July

The blanket of snow all around begins to lift as the season progresses into July. Some snow remains on the last ascent to Bhrigu Lake, especially in early July, although the majority of the snow on the route has melted. The frozen lake melts into small concentric circles as the ice is thinning rapidly.

In August

The monsoon is at its peak right in this month. Rain showers are more regular, and clouds often appear out of nowhere, shrouding the lake and the trail. There are green open fields and meadows which makes it ideal for grazing animals to spawn here and there. The snow has completely melted. Bhrigu Lake turns into a rich blue or cascade in color, surrounded by grassy terrain and flowers.

In September

September is one of the greatest months to visit Bhrigu Lake, according to experienced travelers and trekkers. The gorgeous destination attracts hikers. Not only the lake seems royal blue or cascade colored the meadows are luscious green. The beautiful Himalayas are easily visible in clear skies as the monsoon season comes to an end.

Is Bhrigu Lake Trek Is Safe To Do ?

Before you start trekking, you should be aware of the effects of high altitude on your body. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) symptoms include a moderate headache, nausea, and discomfort usually. In the Himalayas, the weather can be unstable. Even if we keep a close eye on the weather, no one can guarantee snow, rain, or sunshine. Please note that your safety is our top priority, and if the weather isn’t cooperating, we won’t go any further from the campsite. Minor injuries such as calf sprains, bruises, and other minor ailments are common while trekking through challenging terrains. Serious injuries, such as fractures or significant cuts can also happen but it is uncommon.

Terrain Wise

If you’re walking on a snow-covered route in June, make sure you have your micro spikes on. Slips are very common in thick snow. A ligament rupture, a sprained ankle, or even a fracture can all arise from a minor slip. Always step on footholds created by previous trekkers. Deep footholds should be avoided. Make no attempt to forge your own path. When it rains heavily in July and August, the route turns muddy and slushy; be cautious of the slushy portions, which are quite treacherous. On slick terrain, use shoes with strong traction. If you slip on these parts, you will fall and suffer serious injuries, especially on the narrow sections of the meadow with a deep valley below.

Altitude Wise

Pay great attention to your body if you’re aiming to complete this trek in one day. Keep an eye out for symptoms of altitude sickness. Pay attention to your discomfort and take steps to alleviate it. Check your oxygen levels, start a Diamox treatment, drink plenty of water, and relax. Do not continue on the walk if you do not feel normal after a few hours or overnight.

Weather Wise

On your walk, it could rain at any time. Low pressures over a region can usually result in rain, even if the adjoining valley is bone dry! A dusting of snow on the upper slope can result from rain on the lower slope. Rain that lasts more than four hours, on the other hand, may cause your voyage to be rescheduled. It has the potential to flood pathways or make them too sloppy to walk on safely. Some of the most common parts can become extremely slick. Stop where you are if the rain turns heavy with strong winds. Take cover beneath a tree. Make sure the tree is part of a forest rather than a lone tree. Before going out again, wait for the rain to stop. Do not wait till the rain has stopped completely. It’s safe to walk in the drizzle.
