Two freezing cold rivers, Dzukou and Japhu, flow through the valley, crossing each other’s paths and adding to the overall splendour of the place.

The Dzukou valley trek is an easy to moderately difficult trek which is suitable for any healthy person. It is one of the finest valleys and an iconic natural tourist site in Northeast India. Although the best season to visit is from October to May, even the monsoon season, which is from June to September, is great for visiting . Around that time, you may expect to see colorful and fresh seasonal flowers like the Dzukou lily, which is indigenous to Ngaland, aconitum, euphorbia, and multi-colored rhododendrons blooming all over the valley. Fauna including the Asian golden cat, the Hoolock Gibbon, the Dzuko Valley horned toad (Megophrys dzukou), several other species of animals like the clouded leopard, the Asiatic black bear, the capped langur are found.

There are two ways to get to Dzukou Valley. The route through Zakhama Village is shorter, steeper, and more challenging, and is normally preferred by experienced hikers. Viswema Village is the lengthier route, which has relatively easier ascents and descents.

When To Plan Dzukou Valley Trek

Dzukou Valley Trek can be done for through out the year. But to get the best view you should do it between June to October .  But the trek is not same in every month .

In June

From April to August you will get the most beautiful view of Dzukou valley as the Dzukou Lilly Bloom . Moreover the whole valley become green as the rainy season starts.

In September to November

During this period the valley is less greenish and become dull. The view is still great and you can do camp easily nearby the basecamp.

Itinerary

• You will be boarding your train to Dimapur from Guwahati at 11:30 pm. Meet and greet your fellow travellers and start your journey

• You will be picked up by our representative in the station and he will take you to Kohima. Have your breakfast on the way.
• Once you reach Kohima, explore the prominent tourist places of the city. Visit Kohima war cemetery and then the Kisama heritage village where hornbill festival is organised every year. You will see all the traditional houses of all the 17 tribes of Nagaland.
• Check-in at the homestay in Jakhama and settle down. Explore the village and its terrace paddy fields. Have lunch and rest a bit.
• In the evening, engage with some fun conversation with the owner to know about Nagaland and share your stories with your fellow travel mates.
• Have dinner and rest for the night.

• Once you finish your breakfast, pack your bags, pick up your tents and sleeping bags and head to the Dzukou trek point via viswema.
• Reach the first base from where the actual picturesque valley starts. Rest a bit and have your packed lunch there. Resume your trek. It will take approximately 3-4 hrs from there to reach your campsite/dormitory.
• As you reach the site, pith your tents. It’ll be cold. Your guide will prepare dinner for you. Join him in the kitchen and engage in story telling or fun conversation while warming up yourself from the fireplace.
• After dinner, settle down for the night. You can also engage in star gazing if you find a clear sky. It’ll be a perfect moment if you are an astrophotographer.

• Wake up to chill morning. This morning is going to be magical for you because you may witness a valley covered with a blanket of white clouds.
• After a good breakfast, take a small backpack with some snacks and water and head down to the heart of the valley. Crossing the river , head up to the top and relax watching the rolling hills of the valley.
• Come back quickly to your campsite and bid goodbye to the valley with a promise to come again.
• Trek down by Jakhama and reach the homestay. Have lunch and drive to Dimapur. Your trip comes to end with a lots of cherish-able memories. Board your train at 11:30 pm and reach Guwahati by 4:30am.

Weather Wise

The Dzukou Valley Trek starts from January and goes up to December and in these whole months the trek is safe to do.

If you do the trek between April to September the trek route will little be slippery as rainy season will start so its important to carry poncho/raincoat and if you do the trek between December to February the temperature goes down up to -1 degree so carrying good warm cloths is important.
